What you get today

• Practice-test progress that follows you. Save your Technician, General and Amateur Extra scores, see what you’ve completed, review the questions you missed, and pick up on any device.
• Station alerts for packet radio. Add your station and we’ll email you if it hasn’t been heard on the air for a day, and again when it’s back. Handy for spotting a stuck TNC, a dead radio or an antenna problem early.
• 2 m band opening alerts. New! Get an email when the 2 meter band opens up. When the K5NWZ APRS station starts hearing unusually distant stations directly, that’s tropospheric ducting: a great time to get on 2 m and try for long-distance VHF contacts. The site also shows a red 2 M BAND OPEN notice at the top of the sidebar while it’s happening.
• My stations, found automatically. Sign up with your callsign and we find your APRS, packet, Meshtastic and MeshCore stations for you: when each was last heard, who heard it and how.
• Your live mesh map. New! A private, live map of your Meshtastic and MeshCore nodes — where they are, who is hearing them right now, and a pulse that runs along the line every time one of them is heard. Gauges show how far you are getting out, your best signal and hops, with a day-by-day history. Keep it Simple for a quick look, or switch to Everything for the full picture.
• Follow any mesh node. Keep an eye on a friend’s node, a local repeater or a club node, right on your dashboard.
• One account for the whole site. The same sign-in works for practice tests, alerts, the APRS and packet pages, and Station Check.

Coming next

• Email alerts for mesh nodes: Meshtastic and MeshCore alerts by email, not only Discord.
• History and records: heard-per-day charts, farthest contacts and a station log for your antenna changes.

This is a work in progress. For now, station alerts cover packet radio stations in Northern Colorado only. Sign up now and new features will be ready in your account as they arrive.

Not a commercial site. K5NWZ.com is a personal hobby site. Nothing is sold here, there are no ads, and your email is never shared. We only email you about what you asked for, such as a station alert you set up or an account request like a password reset.

Your name, city and state help us confirm who owns a station. They are never shown publicly or shared. About your email: we never send newsletters, ads or mailing-list email, and we never share your address. The only emails you will get are ones you asked for: an alert for a station you are watching, a 2 m band opening alert, or an account email you request, such as an activation link or a password reset. If you change your email, we send an activation link to the new address and sign you out until you click it.
