K5NWZ.com

What this website is

K5NWZ.com began as a simple collection of notes and frequently needed information for my own reference has grown into something much more.

Originally, this site was just for me. A place to store settings, links, configurations, ideas, and lessons learned along the way. But as friends and fellow hobbyists started asking questions about amateur radio, overlanding, off-roading, software defined radio, Meshcore, packet radio, and radio control projects, I realized it was far easier to point them here than to retype the same explanations over and over.

So this website evolved.

K5NWZ.com is now a resource for the hobbies and interests that keep me curious, engaged and out of trouble. Many of them overlap. Radios show up in the Jeep. Mesh networks connect communities. RC aircraft blend aviation and electronics. It all ties together in one way or another.

To keep things organized, I’ve grouped everything into categories such as:

  • Amateur Radio
  • Mesh Networking and Packet Radio
  • Software Defined Radio
  • Off-Roading and Overlanding
  • Camping
  • Radio Control Aircraft and Vehicles
  • And always adding more

This site serves as the structured reference library. For open discussion, troubleshooting help, shared discoveries, and real-time collaboration, I also host the K5NWZ Discord server. It’s an active community where we talk through projects, solve problems, compare setups, and help newcomers get started. Whether you’re building out a mesh, setting up packet, tuning an antenna, configuring an SDR, or planning your next off-road trip, there’s always someone willing to jump in and help.

This website is also constantly under construction. As projects evolve, new interests develop, and better ways of doing things are discovered, you’ll see updates, additions, and refinements. Consider it a living document rather than a finished product.

This is not a personal blog, and you won’t find family photos or private details here. That’s intentional. The purpose of this site is to share knowledge, document projects, and provide practical resources for others who enjoy the same pursuits.

If something here helps you get on the air, hit the trail, launch a glider, build a node, or solve a problem, then it’s doing exactly what it was meant to do.

Welcome. Explore. And if you’re into any of this stuff, you’re in the right place.
