The current game plan, at least for now, looks something like this:

Random OTR News : Actual WWII News broadcast recordings. Some on the battlefield.
5am – 4pm: Old Time Radio comedy featuring favorites like Abbott and Costello, Amos ’n’ Andy, and more
4pm – 8pm: Classic Old Time Radio drama including shows like Dragnet and Gunsmoke
8pm – 6am : Mystery, suspense, and the strange world of classic Old Time Radio thrillers

Welcome to K5NWZ Wayback Radio!

K5NWZ Wayback Radio is still very much under construction, but the journey has already begun.

The idea for K5NWZ Wayback Radio started with a simple goal. I wanted to hear authentic 1930s, 1940s and 1950s era radio programming playing through the vintage tube radios I restore. Listening to modern content on an old tube radio just did not feel right. To bring those radios back to life the way they were meant to be enjoyed, I set up a small Part 15 AM radio station here in my shack in Loveland, Colorado.

The original plan was simple: loop old, period correct radio shows for my collection of vintage radios. But, as tends to happen around here, I “saw the squirrel,” and this little project quickly turned into a full blown radio station. Now the plan includes AM and FM broadcasting, along with streaming out onto the interwebs for anyone who wants to tune in.

Since the station is still in the setup and testing phase, you will likely hear interruptions, bad fades, dead air, occasional oddities, and plenty of behind the scenes tinkering. You might even catch live testing, format experiments, or me chasing yet another radio related squirrel. Your listening actually helps by putting the stream under real world load while I work out the bugs. From time to time, I may need to restart the stream. If it suddenly stops, simply refresh your browser and jump back in.

So pull up a chair, warm up the tubes, and take a trip back in time with K5NWZ Wayback Radio. Thanks for listening while we build something fun and just a little bit nostalgic.
